---- Athlete Spotlight June ----

This month we shine the spotlight on Michael Griffey... Griffey has been part of the CFTSV community for a few years now, but it feels as though him and soon to be wife Naree have been apart of the community forever!

Age: 28
Occupation: Structural Engineer
Grew up where: Alice Springs 10 years/ Townsville the rest

When and how did you get started with us?
2013, Stricko saw Naree was a weapon at All Stars and decided he would have to let me also join with Crossfit Townsville if he wanted her.

What is your favourite WOD or movement?
Hmm I have 2, for separate reasons. Burpees firstly because I am good at them. Second is thrusters, because they will kick your arse like nothing else!

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
That is easy, I would be a Goreagle. A fully grown silverback gorilla to lay around all day in my nest but also be jacked and lift heavy objects with ease. I can also shapeshift into a golden eagle so that if I have to travel long distances I can just fly around.

What's the best part about training at CFTSV?
Without a doubt the culture. Everyone is friendly and supportive of each other which makes it a place where people want to keep training.

Tell us something about yourself that we don't know?
That’s a hard one, I am pretty open about everything but, if I had to pick something that not many people may know is that I weep hard when I watch sad movies.

What other activities do you enjoy doing outside of Crossfit?
I mean, I enjoy all of the usual stuff – watching movies, socialising, playing guitar, extreme ironing. But aside from that some of the best memories I have so far have been going on holidays with my soon to be wife, Naree and just having a good time. We have been snowboarding, ATV riding, horse riding, jet skiing, reef fishing, parasailing, white water rafting, elephant riding, and I have lost count of how many zoos I have been to.

Please share with us your fondest CrossFit / CFTSV memory:
I have too many to count, every time someone hits a PR or grinds through an open workout, or gets their first muscle up it is always great to see everyone get behind them and the excitement is contagious! Although something that sticks in my mind is when this one bloke at bootcamp had a really rough time and when we had finished the horrible session he had stripped down to his tights and was wandering round like a person lost in the desert. Clearly had his world rocked!

Thanks Griffey for letting us get to know you a little better.
